When you first import a vCenter Compute Resource, OnApp places all Networks (dvPortGroups) into a single Network Zone. Your Datastores are also placed into a single Data Store Zone.
Zones in OnApp are logical groups of resources. Either Compute, Network or Data Store Zones.
Zones are important in deciding how you wan't to allocate and bill for resources to customers. For example, if you have a Network, perhaps a dvPortGroup that is dedicated to a single customer, then you would want to put this in a seperate Zone. This ensures you can define which customers can use this VLAN only, by adding it to the customers Bucket only.
Therefore, in most cases you would probably want to reorganise your networks and datastores into multiple zones. It is important you do this before importing or creating Virtual Servers in your OnApp environment.
These steps explain how to do this for Networks. You can follow the same instructions for Data Stores.
1. Ensure there are no VMs in OnApp connected to the Networks you wish to move into new Zones. This is why it is important to organise your networks before importing or creating VMs in OnApp. If there are, Support can help you remove those VMs from OnApp safely without deleting them.
** First you need to detach the networks from the compute resource and unassign from the existing network zone, to allow you to move them into new zones **
2. Go to Settings > Compute Resources, then click on the label of the vCenter compute resource the networks are currently associated with.
3. Go to Tools > Manage Networks
4. Unassign the networks you wish to move into new zones by selecting the '-'. Take note of the interface name. Note: This will fail if there are VSs using the networks, refer to step 1.
5. Now go to Settings > Network Zones, and unassign the networks from the Zone.
** Now you can create new zones and assign the networks **
6. Go to Settings > Network Zones > Create Network Zone
7. Give the Zone a name, can be identical to the Network name if you wish.
8. At the next page assign the network(s) that should belong to this zone by selecting the '+' to the right of the relevant network.
**Now attach them to the vCenter compute resource again**
9. Go to Settings > Compute Resources, then click on the label of the vCenter compute resource the networks are currently associated with.
10. Go to Tools > Manage Networks
11. Attach the networks back to the Compute Resource by selecting the Network from the drop down box, entering the interface (normally vlan for vcenter) and selecting 'Add Network'
Repeat the above steps for all required networks and data stores. Then ensure you add the new zones to the relevant Bucket.
